Cup, or saucer, shaped mushrooms grow on a variety of substrates, from rotting wood to soil or moss. Many cup-shaped mushrooms are very small, brightly coloured, and grow in large clusters. A small variety of larger cup-shaped mushrooms are darkly coloured and grow on the forest floor. Most cup-shaped mushrooms lack a stalk.
